Johnson Announces $5 Million for McLaughlin Independent School District (SD)

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Tim Johnson  (D-SD) today announced that the McLaughlin Independent School District will receive a $5,000,000 grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to build a new Junior/High facility. The funding comes from the Department of Education’s Impact Aid Construction Recovery Act Program.

"I am pleased that the McLaughlin Independent School District will receive stimulus funding to build a new school," Johnson said. "We need to make sure that our children have access to modern schools that will help prepare them for careers in the 21st century, and this stimulus funding plays an important role in making that happen."

Resources from the stimulus package are continuing to help local communities across South Dakota. Funding has already been distributed to local housing commissions to cities and towns to continue the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, weatherization, and local health services. Additional resources from the legislation will continue to be distributed in the weeks ahead.

The stimulus package recently signed by President Obama is focused on tax cuts for the middle class, infrastructure investments and job creation. This funding is a prime example of the kind of resources the legislation provides to help improve communities while advancing South Dakota’s economy.

This funding is part of a series of four grant releases today totaling $19,683,676 in Impact Aid funding to South Dakota school districts including, Shannon County Independent School District, McLaughlin Independent School District, Timber Lake School District and Mobridge School District.
