Alabama Gets OK to Cut Special Ed Funding (AL)
April 12, 2011
Alabama is one of a few states given rare permission by the federal government to cut spending on special education this year.
According to the Birmingham News, state officials have asked to spend $9.2 million less on education programs for the disabled as Alabama copes with budget cuts.
Federal officials approved the decrease in special education funding because the cuts were just a fraction of the 8.4 percent cut to the overall education budget.
