“Accelify helps me stay organized and see my
workload on a day-to-day basis. …
All the information is in one place for me to access”

Kim Kaup has been making a difference in how children communicate for a long time. 23 years ago she decided to become a Speech-Language Pathologist because she knew she wanted to work with children, but didn’t want to teach in a classroom. She has never looked back. “I love the opportunities I get in working with different people on a day to day basis,” she explained. “I have learned so much from many of the students I have had an opportunity to work with,” she continued.

Her students have also learned a lot from her: “It is very rewarding when I hear parents say things like, ‘at one point, we just wanted him to talk and now, sometimes we want him to be quiet.’ That means I have done my job and have given the child the power of communication.”

But not all aspects of Kim’s job are as exciting as giving children the power of communication. As with any position in a school, paperwork and administrative tasks are a big part of the job, but they are what make the time Kim spends with students possible.

Because Kim works at 2 different schools with students in many different classrooms, creating an initial calendar for services can be especially challenging, as can finding the time to document student services. Having a system like Accelify, which is a PowerSchool Partner and provides a direct link to the district’s SIS, makes administrative tasks such as scheduling and documenting much easier. Kim particularly likes Accelify’s drag-and-drop calendar. “It helps me stay organized and see my workload on a day-to-day basis,” she explained. “It is easy to access student attendance for therapy sessions and I like the fact that I can jot progress notes right into the program. All the information is in one place for me to access.”

And while documentation and scheduling are not Kim’s favorite aspect of her job, she understands their value to students, and is grateful for tools that make it easier. “The positive impact comes from the fact that we are able to recoup more funds for services and programming for students based on how we are keeping track of students we see for therapy” she said.

Thank you for your many years of service and dedication to your students Kim! Keep up the great work!
