Wyoming’s New Special Education Rules Updated
January 13, 2010
Officials say a year-long effort to update Wyoming’s special education rules is nearly completed.
The rule changes are designed to give parents more say over their kids’ education in compliance with the federal Individauls with Disabilities in Education Act. They now await minor alterations and consideration for approval by Gov. Dave Freudenthal.
In part, the rules will allow parents to revoke consent for special education services at any time.
The final rules must be completed before Feb. 1 for approval by the governor. If the rules are not approved, the Wyoming Department of Education could spend months making revisions.
